Special Edition
6TH Annual IIN Conference
The 6th Annual IIN Conference- The Greening of IIN: Making Money while Promoting Eco-Friendly Practices Jenny Tomkins and I have been working hard to make this year's Conference the best ever, We know with the price of gas and airfare (not to mention extra charges for baggage) you have to weigh travel decisions carefully, so we want to make it worth your while. The Conference itself will start on Sunday, October 26th at 5:30 PM with a welcoming reception. On Monday the Conference will begin at 9am with a presentation of Trends in the Industry. Jay Karen, President and CEO of PAII was to give that talk but he and his wife are expecting a baby that week so Karen Hudgeons, Director of PAII Membership and Member Services has graciously agreed to take his place. This will be followed by a power point presentation by Mark and Guia Hoffman. They have the ultimate "green" bed and breakfast facility in Kempton, Illinois. Check out their website at www.greenhousebed.com After lunch we'll have a panel of owners and former owners. IIN member Carole Jean Rogers is moderating this panel. We need your input for this . Please email Carole Jean with questions and topics you would like the owners to address: cjr@clarityleadership.com After a break we'll discuss how we can encourage the "greening" of our Bed and Breakfast clients. Monday night is our banquet at 7pm. We're in the process of finalizing plans. We're leaning towards an Italian restaurant that uses organic and locally grown produce as often as possible. The atmosphere is wonderful with an energetic and creative owner. On Tuesday our emphasis will be on marketing with Cheryl Conarty as our main presenter followed by a member panel on their successes in marketing. I haven't asked specific members for that panel yet, but am asking for volunteers. Please email me if you are willing to participate darbymack@sbcglobal.net otherwise I will recruit. Carole Jean has also agreed to facilitate that discussion. We will also have 2 vendor presentations. Many of you already know Chuck Andracchio of Tricor insurance (www.tricorinsurance.com) . Julia Moreno Perri of Biz Video Ad will tell us about her partnership progarm where we can earn commissions if we reccomend Inn owners and they buy a video ad package from her. (www.bizvideoad.com) After lunch we will have the business meeting. We also have the option to participate in a coaching session prior to the meeting conducted by Carole Jean which will involve looking at our organization in regard to the IIN mission statement, job descriptions, communication skills, future vision for IIN etc. Please email Carole Jean or me with your thoughts on this. Carole Jean is an expert in the field of Leadership Coaching and there will be no additional charge for this session. Please check out her website at www.clarityleadership.com In addition to the formal Conferece we have all sorts of surprises for you. I attended the "Green Festival" in Chicago in May and met with many vendors, and several of them have sent me samples of their eco-friendly products to give you. We are negotiating for a coffee presentation and/or wine tasting at a brand new gorgeous wine, cheese, and coffee bar in Oak Park. Coffee is organic and Fair Trade of course. There is also a plethora (love that word!) of Pre-Conference activities to chose from. For the shopper, we'll have a list of interesting shops right in Oak Park and neighboring Forest Park and the Magnificent mile in Chicago is a train ride away. ($5 daily pass on the "El" or $5 weekend pass on the metra train.) For lovers of architecture, there will be a tour of Frank Llyod Wright homes and studio in Oak Park and an Architechtural Boat Tour on the Chicago River. Of course the museums in Chicago are magnificent especially the Art Institute. Millenium Park with it's "Bean" sculpture and unique fountain is a must see. Other options include the Oak Park Conservatory , Hemingway House and the Brookfield Zoo..When you send in your registration you will receive a confirmation and the list of Pre-Conference activities to choose from. We hope you all can come Saturday (or stay after the Conference) and take advantage of all the Chicago area offers.

So, I encourage you to make your room reservations.(info in cover letter sent with registration form and on the IIN website) and send me your Conference registration soon. Remember the early bird registration deadline is August 15th See you in Chicago! Darby McGuigan
